About
hello! i’m Beth Rontal
The Documentation Wizard®
If you have ever stared at your notes wondering whether they are good enough, ethical enough, or detailed enough to withstand an audit, you are in the right place. You may feel behind, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what your documentation is supposed to look like. You are not alone, and you do not need to keep struggling with this on your own.
I am Beth Rontal, LICSW. For more than two decades, I have helped thousands of therapists transform documentation from a source of worry into a clinical skill they feel confident using. My job is to make documentation make sense. Whether you need guidance, clarity, or a trusted system you can rely on, together we can bring structure and confidence to your documentation so it supports both you and your clients.
My focus is simple. You can develop the skills to write notes that protect your clients, support your clinical thinking, and reflect the high standards you bring to your work. Documentation that passes audits, supports medical necessity, and gives you back your evenings and weekends.
If you are here because you want documentation to feel manageable and not like it is taking over your life, welcome. You have found the place you were looking for. I am glad you are here.

As Seen On
let me tell you a story
I did not set out to build a company around documentation. My first career was in theater where I spent twenty years as a costume designer, working with structure, pattern, and detail. When I became a trauma therapist, I realized those same skills helped me see the shape of clinical work and how a client’s story needed to be reflected in their notes.
While supervising clinicians in a community mental health clinic, I noticed how often documentation created stress and uncertainty. I found that I could explain it in a way that made sense, connecting the clinical work to the written record in a clear and meaningful way. When I helped develop the clinic’s first electronic documentation system, I saw how much time and frustration could be saved with a thoughtful, systematic approach.
In 2012, I founded Documentation Wizard so clinicians could have practical, compassionate guidance for documenting their work. My Misery and Mastery trainings and templates grew from that vision. They offer structure, clarity, and a way to translate clinical intuition into notes that reflect high quality care.
I still maintain my clinical practice and return to my theatrical roots through writing and performance. Both worlds remind me that stories matter, and the way we tell them matters just as much. Documentation Wizard is where those two threads come together.
